Josh, I didn't want this but, ended up with it. no doubt and original but, pin and roller lock missing. what are your thoughts on this??

Possibly either broken through use / misuse, or previously mounted for display somehow ? Like you said, it does appear to be an original production example, & could be displayed 'as is', & or could be repaired ? Yes, it would no longer be an 'as issue's piece, but would be just fine for certain purposes, IMHO.

That's a really nice scarce example with the stabilizer hook on the reverse. I'd leave it just as-is. If you repair it, it will look "repaired" , so what's the sense? (it's not like the purpose of the repair would be so it could be worn again)

Just saw this Costa. Nice late 20s through 30s badge with pin carefully removed. It's a piece of sub force history, just not one destined for use. I have one just like it that came in a small lot of sub insignia that's even more defiled...
