55rocker52 Posted June 22, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 22, 2019 Hey Guys, I have another head scratcher. I have attached both a front a back shot. Is it Navy, Coast Guard, or what? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kent
Salvage Sailor Posted June 23, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 23, 2019 It's been discussed several times on the forum and the best identification is this mark was used to designate class leaders at Sampson Naval Training Center during 1944-45 PS - I moved this topic to the USN ranks and rates board
55rocker52 Posted June 23, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted June 23, 2019 So is it considered to be a fairly common patch? Thanks, Kent

MastersMate Posted October 26, 2019 Share #7 Posted October 26, 2019 In the head scratcher department. For anyone interested in the CPO bullion rating badges that never were. Doing a browse thru E-Bay I came across this pristine looking Quartermaster, Aviation rating badge. Must have been made on speculation because the rating, color material and chevrons are from a different time period. Enjoy.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-era-US-Navy-CPO-aviation-quartermaster-khaki-bullion-original-package/352828527214?hash=item522638126e:g:e1UAAOSwF79drF8I

People suggest they were made for collectors, though they are obviously not period. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
MastersMate Posted October 30, 2019 Share #10 Posted October 30, 2019 Ahhh, With the pristine number of 1900s and 1920s rating badges that show up on the buying channel, there MUST be someone on the planet that has a digital template to make up modern re-creations of vintage rating badges with modern embroidery machines

I have seen photos of reproductions and an experienced collector should be able to tell the difference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
