The name Ace Novelty came up a few days ago and I am interested in seeing more, mine are from Navy SSBN's "ICBM missle boats" I hope others will post Ace patches and I assume that most were navy but who knows so post yours or let us know if you actually purchased one. I laso assume they were from the 60's or 70's.

Thanks, John

Saw your post on Ace Novelty patches and have a handful in my collection of USAF patches. The Air Force also used Ace as a patch supplier in the 1960s. Here is a 449th Fighter Interceptor Sq patch when they were stationed in Alaska. I have another patch from Vietnam that I cannot lay my hands on right now but its really nice (in my opinion). I'll post it when I find it!

Thanks Steve,

I look forward to were this thread goes, I am not hugely interested in the other services but it is very intersting to see what this supplier did for any and all of the units that used them.

Thanks for a great post.

The Yankee Air Pirate has the same ACE label. The other patch isn't ACE, but it has an interesting label from another maker.

John,

It is also my understanding that there are some Ace patches with a green sticker on the back that should be avoided. I seem to remember that they are of recent manufacture by a dealer and not really by "The Ace Novelty" Co. Any one out there able to confirm or deny this?

Hi Kurt,

The Yankee Air Pirate is interesting. I have never seen a Ace patch embroidered on twill. Everyone I have seen are fully embroidered. Any info on that one?

I knew this thread would prove to be interesting, thanks to every one for digging into thier collections. And I am astounded that there are Ace repros, thier work seems to be very tight.

Steve-

I bought it in an Ebay junk lot for really cheap a few years back (not from a dealer or collector). The front is fully embroidered - it has a white twill backing.

Here is and Ace Novelty 326th Fighter Interceptor Squadron patch from 1959-60. I knew the original owner and he was stationed there during this time period. It is always nice to know the time frame. Ben

Found the patch I mentioned in an earlier post above. An impossible to upgrade MIP 480th TFS 100 Missions over N Vietnam WITH a complimentry 1969 wallet calender card. Came with an older made Phantom 1000 Hrs and a Thai made SAM Qualified FSH patch.

Here's the only one I have, a USS Franklin D. Roosevelt patch for the 1976-1977 (final) Mediterranean cruise. It seems a little odd that a Med cruise patch would have been made in Japan, considering Rosie was decommissioned in 1977.

I have never heard of these patches. I just searched e-bay. There are 3 listed for $45.00 and one for $65.00. Is this the going rate for these? Are they really rare?

Thanks..Kat

Patches made by Ace Novelty run the gambit in prices. Ace started making patches in the 1950's and are still making them today ( but they are no computerized and the quality is not there). You will find the more common Ace patches around $50.00 or less but they will run up in the hundreds for certain ones.

On the other question about the Med cruise, it was cheaper for the ships/ units to have patches made in Japan then in the areas they were stationed. Ace made many patches for units stationed in the US also.

This shows some variations of the same patch. The one on the left is the older one. You can see the difference in embroidery on the reverse of the patch.

[Kat, I paid 2.50 for the Jackson patch and about 4 for Grant I may have paid as much as 15 for the Lincoln but I really needed it. They are great period patches from some great units. The way guys moved around the globe in the service I am not suprized that they show up every were.

Not really so surprising. This is a company, and is on a list of places to get patches made. Many large companies like this do not take small orders. This patch is for one division of one ship for one cruise, maybe a hundred patches. Lot of work to get set up to do that order. Could very well have been that this company was more than happy to take the order at a good price. What is mor interesting is that at the time of the patch, the Navy was NOT weearing the jumper and white hat uniform! We were wearing the CPO style uniform, yet the figuer on the patch is in the old style jumper uniform. Another example of how much the CPO style uniform was dis liked by the Sailors. Another example was that the Navy Cerimonial Guard in DC did not change to the CPO uniform, but continued to wear the Jumper style uniform through out the period.

This was a patch removed from my father's flight suit. In a tribute, I had it sewn to the back of my motorcycle jacket. I was wondering if anyone has more info on it? It has the Ace Novelty Box 1374 tag sewn to the back.
