bldrhouse Posted June 20, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2019 Someone sanded this 1944 M1 Carbine stock down to beautiful wood, but now it looks like a toy. What do I use to return it to it's appropriate USGI WWII look? Boiled Linseed oil? fyi this is on a very intriguing cutaway that I bought from a dealer. I'll post those pix on the correct forum z

doyler Posted June 20, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 20, 2019 BLO was used by the military.I have a can of old GI issue BLO and used it on stock for 03,Garand,M1a etc. Most were stocks that had set for years and were bare wood. The M1a was a new replacement GI stock. Can use Tung oil too,
Captainofthe7th Posted June 21, 2019 Share #4 Posted June 21, 2019 I second linseed oil. I once 'restored' a cut down Civil War rifled musket and used this to return the dark rich color you want to see in the stock as it had also been sanded like your carbine. It looks great now.
