Civil War Boots ? Family Lore Says They Are

These boots have been in my family for at least 100 years and the "Family Lore" has been that they are Civil War boots worn by a relative.

 

I am not an expert on 19th Century footwear, so I though I would post these and get some opinions concerning their age. Are they Civil War, or are they late 19th century civilian boots?

 

Ive been looking at some websites with original boots and these appear to be made the correct way from the pull straps to the sole type.

I believe that is the Wellington Style M1851 Artillery drivers boots. Used in CW and Indian Wars

It has been along time since I collected and dealt in Civil War items. I believe the M1851 Art had a more square toe but otherwise yours seems to comply. Here is a photo and description of a pair that are supposed to be original M1851's. Alot of Civilian and Officer's boots 1850's thru 1870 had like construction and features. Richard

 

 

U5 1851 Artillery Driver's Pattern Boots

Excellent pair of Civil War boots. These conform to the 1851 pattern boot for artillery drivers, with internal boot pulls and a slight, curved rise on the front top of the boot. One cloth pull on each boot is intact, another is mostly missing and one is torn. The leather is strong and supple with no flaking whatsoever, and the square toed soles are in great shape. The boots measure 10" long and 13" tall. Excellent displaying example of a genuine Civil War boot.

Look like 19th century boots to me...

 

Are those soles pegged or sewn?

Almost all CW boots I have seen, and I had 5 pairs at one time, and they all had a more square shaped toes and wooden pegged soles or a combination of metal and wooded pegs as that was the style then. Here is my last pair that I currently have for sale as an example. Ray
