digi-shots Posted June 12, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 12, 2019 I should know the answer but... not sure When did the Navy go from the smaller sterling jump wings to the longer gold style? I have seen small cloth ones used up into the Vietnam time frame, just not sure on the silver metal ones. Thanks!

Dave Posted June 12, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 12, 2019 Keep in mind too that someone in the Navy or Marine Corps will still wear the smaller jump wings unless/until they are designated a naval parachutist (not super uncommon to see Navy/USMC officers with basic airborne wings they earned while at the Academy and never did enough jumps to become a naval parachutist...) Skysoldier80 Posted June 12, 2019 Share #5 Posted June 12, 2019 Just a little more information...You cannot earn USN/USMC Jump wings unless you perform a minimum of 10x Static line Jumps. Some guys like your EOD Bubbas will even go to US Army Freefall School, but will only wear the Standard Gold Jump Wing. The only interesting recent change is for MARSOC, who went from the famous look of the Gold SCUBA Bubble and Gold Jump wing to their new Insignia.
