MWalsh Posted June 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted June 11, 2019 Anyone ever see this one before? It was a first for me. I was thinking that perhaps it was a German made patch for an Aviation unit in the 5th Division, 50's or 60's. It is very possible that I am way off too. Thoughts anyone? Bill Scott Posted June 11, 2019 Share #2 Posted June 11, 2019 Looks to me like a Foreign Imperial Railway service with the sequins might be Hungary; Germany etc.Scotty
Wake1941 Posted June 11, 2019 Share #3 Posted June 11, 2019 I agree definitely not US, most of the ID AVN related patches Ive seen have the wings. The wheel in the center makes me think it is some sort of railway patch, not US military related Check out my eBay page, I sell military insignia and just about anything else I come acrossLink: https://www.ebay.com/sch/fitzkeemilitaria/m.html?item=223497878518&hash=item340982fbf6%3Ag%3ASs4AAOSw-llcxhqe&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 Please check out my web page as well for more items for sale https://fitzkeemilitaria.com/
MWalsh Posted June 11, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted June 11, 2019 My thought on the aviation angle was that helicopter pilots, if I recall correctly, were originally assigned as Transportation branch in the early days, thus the wheel, wings, and the red diamond obviously my thought on it being 5th Division. Pure speculation on my part though. Thanks for the responses and info!!
easterneagle87 Posted June 11, 2019 Share #5 Posted June 11, 2019 Isn't a winged wheel a representation for motorcycles as well? I wouldn't know a connection between the 5th ID and cycles. A cool mystery for sure. I "primarily" collect Gulf War 1 patches. All branches (USA, USAF,USN, USMC & USCG) and ALL Countries..US - Op.'s Desert Shield / Storm / Provide Comfort /Some Southern Watch - F-4G's Wild WeaselsUK - Op.'s Granby / Sabre / WardenCanadian - Op. Desert Storm / Op. FrictionFrench - Daguet / AconitNetherlands, Belgium, Poland, South Korea, etc.Looking for the oddities, including unfinished & flawsI HAVE EXTRA's!! Will trade as well. vostoktrading Posted June 12, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2019 Yes, it reminds me of Police motorcycles. Maybe 5th Infantry Division had fancy motorcycle MP patches? MWalsh Posted June 13, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted June 13, 2019 I wondered about the police connection too, but the patch is pretty blingy looking to be US civilian police used or worn I think?
Bill Scott Posted June 13, 2019 Share #8 Posted June 13, 2019 The reason I said Hungary is they are famous for the use of Sequins on their flight badges see scan.I think you might get more help by putting it in the World Military Forum unknown section.Scotty
