142nd Infantry Regiment.

(Probably would have helped if you mentioned the 36th ID insignia on the other side of the helmet.)

the other images on eBay has the 36th Texas T with yellow lighting bolt.

Looks like a end of the war Parade helmet

The Rooster

Dont do it. You don't need it..!!!!!

The only way to stop is to stop.

Ask yourself this… Do I really need another helmet?

I found this posting on the forum from 2009 that suggests the lightning bolt on the 36th infantry insignia was added in the field by I Company of the 142nd Infantry Regiment during a particular operation over the Moder River. The source cited is the Texas Military Forces Museum blog. I found the original posting on that forum, which appears to be an anonymous posting by a veteran in 2006. Without clear photographic evidence or more solid documentation, its not totally pinned down, but remains an interesting line of further inquiry.

Very interesting!! Thanks for digging.

The helmet has good patina, I think $2,700 is good considering what this lid would have sold for 5-10 years ago had it popped up on Ebay.

Does anyone have any of the other photos from this auction? My grandfather was in i company, 142nd and I would love to see what might have been one of their helmets (lightning flash) and this helmet in general
