Phineaus Posted June 18, 2019 Share #16 Posted June 18, 2019 I found this posting on the forum from 2009 that suggests the lightning bolt on the 36th infantry insignia was added in the field by I Company of the 142nd Infantry Regiment during a particular operation over the Moder River. The source cited is the Texas Military Forces Museum blog. I found the original posting on that forum, which appears to be an anonymous posting by a veteran in 2006. Without clear photographic evidence or more solid documentation, its not totally pinned down, but remains an interesting line of further inquiry. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/60267-unusual-36th-id-marking-on-ww2-helmet/?fromsearch=1 https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.tapatalk.com/groups/texasmilitaryforcesmuseum/viewtopic.php%3ft=648&=

Thanks for digging. The helmet has good patina, I think $2,700 is good considering what this lid would have sold for 5-10 years ago had it popped up on Ebay.
