Leatherneck72 Posted January 15, 2020 Share #51 Posted January 15, 2020 Get some black powder loads and shoot those old war horses.
45govt Posted January 15, 2020 Share #52 Posted January 15, 2020 Hello Here is a photo I have had in my accumulation for awhile, it was taken in Arizona and is of a possible mounted infantry? The interesting items are the moccasins and the Schofield in his belt.

MattS Posted January 15, 2020 Share #54 Posted January 15, 2020 That cavalry top is in awesome condition! I knew they had a 5-button front by then, but I thought some had an external pocket on the left chest? Was that a later model?
BlueBookGuy Posted January 15, 2020 Author Share #55 Posted January 15, 2020 Thanx very much! Glad you like it. When this blouse (Pattern 1890, 1st Variation, made somehow as a trial in not more than 2,000 pieces, May-June 1890) came out, the 5-button design already existed since almost sixteen years. Earlier steps toward having external pocket(s) was perhaps much ill-received, and anyway not made for lasting; with this latest Pattern the blouses got back to, first one inside pocket (left side breast, the 1st Variation) and subsequently one more at right-side breast (2nd Variation, starting in September 1890). BlueBookGuy Posted January 23, 2020 Author Share #56 Posted January 23, 2020 Even though not strictly pertaining topic's title - here a couple recent newcomers in collection, cavalryman's item back to late Civil War period, or second half of 1860s. A pair Cavalry gauntlets of lightweight calfskin, pale cream, in good shape with 90% of seams still intact. Here together with a Remington 1863 'Navy' variant, converted to .38 Rimfire metallic ammunition perhaps in early-to-mid 1870s. Revolver too, is in very good condition both mechanically and finish-wise.

MattS Posted January 23, 2020 Share #61 Posted January 23, 2020 The Remington conversion is really nice, but I am really surprised by the condition of the gauntlets. I didn't expect anything leather from 150 years ago to look so nice.
BlueBookGuy Posted January 23, 2020 Author Share #62 Posted January 23, 2020 yes they're really good-looking, in fact a bit... dry (!!) but more than acceptable. My phone decidedly does have too much resolution and consequently hyper-heavy load of pixel, so even a small rectangle of image here on the screen is much close to the accepted limit of 250 KB for uploading. So, details are difficult to show up in high definition. Will try with some smaller percentage of the photos.

BlueBookGuy Posted February 1, 2020 Author Share #68 Posted February 1, 2020 Last shots of original topic's rig. Just played a bit with filters/lighting in order to have a trio of pics purposefully aged, and coming straight from 130 years ago.

BlueBookGuy Posted July 22, 2020 Author Share #73 Posted July 22, 2020 hello all just recently made some shots at basically the same grouping as early in the topic but, with much more definition and more faithful colours - still given the same difficult task of rendering the true very dark blue of those typical wollen blouses, where blue is the most dark that should be the real thing at a reasonable level. Results are decidedly better than the earlier pictures in my opinion. Franco.
