I'm kind of hesitant to say this was her, but this is the only match. However, she was only six when she got Carl back...but stranger things have happened, and the papers do say she's a minor and her obituary says she loved dogs, so...........

Oh, her obit says her father was Alfred, which would make sense with him signing as "Al. V" on the documents.

So it looks like Corporal Carl, a combat-tested Marine doberman and veteran of Iwo Jima went home to be with his six year old owner. Dang!

Thanks a lot Dave. I really appreciate that. It has to be her. Too many facts line up for it to be otherwise.

 

I wonder which presented a bigger challenge for Carl. The Japanese or his six year old owner...........
