ArtyScout Posted May 30, 2019 Share #3 Posted May 30, 2019 Now that is the kind of ship that would protect my rump during WWII & Korea. With a good Captain at the helm, she can take down enemy ships, protect aircraft carriers and apply naval gunfire for ground troops on amphibious assaults and beyond. Awesome model and at 9 ft. in length it looks great. It's a shame she was sold for scrap metal in May of 1961. At least her sister ship; the USS North Carolina is a floating museum. Semper Fi. mikie Posted May 30, 2019 Share #4 Posted May 30, 2019 Now that is a great model! When Dad was in the Army in Hawaii in 1942, he got to take a tour of the Washington. One of his buddies was a sailor on the crew. It was the only time Dad got to see a battleship up close and personal, though he saw plenty from a distance later in the war. He was impressed to say the least. Mikie
