Same WW I 42nd Division Doughboy or Two Different?

Whilst sorting through some of my WW I era photos, I noticed what looks to me like a striking resemblance between two 42nd Division Doughboys. Both photos were purchased months apart from eBay. Although I don't recall the sellers of the two images, I'm presuming that they were not the same. There is no ID or writing on the back of either photo.

  • Both photo are printed on similar German postcard stock
  • Both photos have similar ragged edges
  • Both portrait photos are formatted in a similar fashion, i.e. with a great deal of space above the soldiers heads
  • The subject in both photos look nearly identical

My question is ... are these photos of the same 42nd Division Doughboys, or are they two completely different men who just happen to look alike?

Does anybody have an opinion?

Thanks for looking ... World War I Nerd

Now that I see the images side by side, I can see a distinct difference between the two men ... different shoulder patch construction (crochet and embroidered) ... different hair styles (swept back and parted on the right) and different complexions (Caucasian and Hispanic) ... uhh, not so similar after all.

Looks like two different guys to me. Different nose, eyes, ears, haircut.....

Similar for sure, but the bridge of the noses (bridges of the nose?) tell me they are different men.I

Hey, that was fun. Like those "spot the differences in these pictures" games.
