I know of four contractors.Ames,Gardex 090,LMC 090,and H-W.Were there more?Who or what rather was H-W?

I will have to dig out a few...one that stands out is a 1945 dated shovel with the pic added...no definitive proof of when it was added

 

 

which leads to the next question.....what is the earliest dated M1951s in circulation?

I believe 1950, I could be wrong and will have to check later tonight when I get home.

 

The pic added to ww2 shovels is a genuine post war addition but I am not sure what time frame these were added.

My bad Justin..it is a 44 dated Wood, converted..it is on the right...the etool on the left is unmarked...possibly foriegn..my others are Ames 65 and Gardex 64..nothing exotic

The Wood marker is a cool example, if I recall from WWII collecting days Wood is a harder to find manufacturer

Does anyone know what company the initals H-W stand for?

I do not know what the H-W stands for, but I do have a 1952 dated shovel made by them. Interestingly, it does not appear that my wood handle has ever been painted. Pics of mine:
