Admiral John Corbus

I recently obtained this interesting group to Rear Admiral John Corbus who, while serving as Captain on the U.S.S.Bowfin, had the distinction of "sinking" a concrete dock and a bus loaded with reinforcements. It is my understanding that more of this group exists, and I'd like to see it back together.

That's really cool! I wrote about Corbus in my book and communicated with quite a few of his family members. Sadly, none of them knew where any of his military stuff went. I'm guessing it was probably cleared out after he passed away. I'd love to be able to confirm the number on his Soviet order if it ever pops up!

I didn't realize he was awarded a soviet medal..very interesting. None of the ribbons in the group were Russian but considerding the odd selection of memorabilia that was included, it doesn't surprise me.

Here's his bio from my book. His entry is a bit anemic, in my opinion, as there was nothing for me to photograph or include with it.

Here's a closeup of his Navy Cross, taken from the photo at the National Archives.

And if anyone happens to have it, he should have the Soviet Order of the Patriotic War, First Class number 247525.
