tankerman Posted May 10, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 10, 2019 Looking for advice on rebuilding this knife. From a WW2 SeeBee. The bakelite washers have crumbled over time. Have period plexiglass for repair.
digi-shots Posted May 10, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 10, 2019 I would remove the small damaged partial piece remaining, slide the good pieces to the ends and fill the gap in the middle with some type of cord or cotton rope. Maybe try your hand at some fancy knot-work. If it looks too new or white you could stain it with tea. I would leave the patina on the metal and not polish it. You probably will want to remove the loose green verdigris. I think this would give it a nice look and still be usable. The finished result would be a restoration but the restoration can be easily reversed by simply removing the rope grip.
