kanemono Posted May 5, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 5, 2019 Here is a First New York Mounted Rifles presentation sword to First Lieutenant Frank Fisher who was born in Pennsylvania in 1838. He enlisted in Company G, First New York Mounted Rifles as a 1st Lieutenant at New York City on August 22, 1862. This New York State regiment was organized at New York City by Major Charles C. Dodge. The companies A-M were mustered into the U. S. service for three years. The Regiment served with the Department of Virginia principally at Fortress Monroe, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Williamsburg and Yorktown, Virginia, taking part in over 100 battles and skirmishes, but sustaining no severe losses. Frank Fisher served with the Mounted Rifles in the actions at South Mills, Zuni, Blackwater, Franklin, provenance Church, Blackwater Bridge, Carrsville, South Quay and Joyner's Ford in Virginia. On December 16, 1862, 1st Lieutenant Frank Fisher transferred to the 6th Regiment, US Cavalry (Regular Army). He fought in the Gettysburg Campaign at the Battle of Fairfield, Todd's Tavern, Spottsylvania Court House, Yellow Tavern, Meadow Bridge, Winchester, Fisher's Hill, Cedar Creek, Five Forks, Dinwiddie C.
