Fred Borgmann Posted May 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2019 Verein Deutscher Krieger Cleveland Silver Cross “Verein Deutscher Krieger Cleveland” translates Association of German War Veterans of Cleveland. The earliest mention of this group that I could find was in the 1871-72 Cleveland city directory which lists their address at 2077 West 25th street which is in the South Western section of that city. The reverse is blank with the fineness mark of 950 which is commonly found on German medals of that era indicate that this cross was probably made in Germany. The cross is about 38 mm across. SARGE Posted May 5, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 5, 2019 Now that is a neat club badge! I wonder what the suspension ribbon looked like.
Fred Borgmann Posted May 5, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted May 5, 2019 My guess would be black white red.
KevinBeyer Posted May 6, 2019 Share #4 Posted May 6, 2019 My guess would have been only black and white, but then I looked up the history of the Germanic flags and see that black, white and red were used between 1867 and 1918.
Fred Borgmann Posted May 7, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted May 7, 2019 Black and white would have been Prussian only.
