STG44 Posted May 3, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 3, 2019 Picked up these at a local auction the other night they were in a grouping that had a few pictures that I wanted. Need help with what they are, are they real & what era they are from. I know there is a WWI victory medal, a silver star (in pretty bad shape), a WWI tankers lapel disc, the only ribbon I recognize is fro the good conduct medal. MattS Posted May 3, 2019 Share #6 Posted May 3, 2019 That SSM looks like it was drug down the road behind a truck. The WW1 medal was given by the city of New Haven, CT to local vets I'd say. Those are all common WW2 ribbons, see:
atb Posted May 3, 2019 Share #7 Posted May 3, 2019 The disk is the 1942 to 1951 type worn by armor branch enlisted men.
STG44 Posted May 3, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted May 3, 2019 Thank guys. Yes the SSM looks like some kids used it for playing war. The New Haven medal is pretty cool since that's only about 15 miles from me. I also picked up a couple nice tie pins in the lot, one of a P47 & the other a A20. There were 4 pictures German V1, V2, & V3 rockets also.
joeclown Posted May 3, 2019 Share #9 Posted May 3, 2019 I think your Silver Star is actually missing its Silver Star
dg0223 Posted May 3, 2019 Share #10 Posted May 3, 2019 Sad to think whoever put that poster together didn't think to run it by an editor. The Navy and Marine Corps medal ribbon is upside down. And yes, you Silver Star is missing its silver star.
STG44 Posted May 3, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted May 3, 2019 Yes, I saw that it's missing the small silver star in the center.
STG44 Posted May 4, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted May 4, 2019 A friend of mine at work has this bar that belonged to his grandfather who fought in WWI. I don't see anything like it on the chart. He & I would both like to know what it is.
dg0223 Posted May 10, 2019 Share #13 Posted May 10, 2019 It's the unofficial WWI victory ribbon.
