A friend is looking to buy this helmet in a grouping. Robert Briggs in the 78 Division was a Sgt then 1st Sgt busted back to Sgt then 1st again in 1918. Discharged to be commissioned as 2nd Lt & discharged 1920.

Unit was demobilized mid 1919 & remoblized mid 1921. So did he still wear old unit patches for part of a year?

Why would helmet have split pins & not rivets? Wouldn't British stock be out by that time?

Also paint on helmet looks off. Seems to be touched up above lightning bolt.

Any thoughts?

Great grouping. I don't think it is out the ordinary for him to keep his helmet that he was first issued. Nice patched Overseas cap too.

The helmet looks OK to me. There isn't anything unusual about it being a Mk. I, since back then a helmet was a helmet and the US was still purchasing them from the British as late as 1919.
