Brig Posted April 27, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 27, 2019 Picked this up in a small lot...it appears to be a spiked helmet type emblem, but I don't think this one was used on a helmet. Having dealt with many USMC spiked helmet emblems of the era, I feel that by the patina and the high level of detail, this is an original piece. However, due to no curvature/vaulting, and no sign of any prongs or posts, I don't think it was worn on a helmet. There are two holes on the sides, that seem as if this was mounted to something by rivets or screws, and there is an indentation around the edges and there is much less patina on the edges of the holes, as if the heads of hardware protected it. Perhaps used to adorn a drum or other item? Any ideas?
KurtA Posted April 27, 2019 Share #2 Posted April 27, 2019 It's not a pattern worn by the US Army. Could be militia, state guard, band.
