Civil War Tintype of a Musician Soldier

Recommended Posts

Estate sale find. Came with both large and small UCV reunion uniform buttons and a 1902 celluloid reunion button from Dallas, Texas. I know nothing about CW uniforms, so is this a real Confederate uniform or is it his reunion uniform? Please click on the large picture to turn it correctly.

Thanks in advance,

Al

The Kepi and jacket look post war to me. It may be a Confederate Veterans hat and coat ,but it does not resemble any veterans uniform I’am framiliar with. I would say it’s probably a band uniform. And he was a confederate veteran Great find. Thanks for posting

Your tintype post dates the Civil War by a couple decades-- these loose tintypes are typical of the 1880- 90s time period.

As skypilot said the uniform doesn't look like UCV-- nothing in it suggest a CW Veteran affiliation. Could be a case of unrelated items (photo/ CS Veteran items) being sold together.

Postscript: While I no longer own this small grouping, I wish I did, because I recently found another reunion pin from 1902 in Dallas. This one is larger and has General Robert E. Lee's image on it.

Enjoy, Al
