ArtyScout Posted April 15, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2019 I'm in the process of building another M48 in Vietnam diorama. It will be an M48 crew relaxing and trying to stay "cool", in more ways than one in the Vietnamese summer. The M48 is an old kit from Academy/Minicraft from 1986. Its a nice kit but I discovered that some parts were missing, like the turret hand rail and the rear cargo bustle. So I had to scratchbuild the handrail and the bustle is next. I also ordered some figures from Bravo6 and a Men's magazine pin-up sheet from Archer Fine Transfers.
CNY Militaria Posted April 15, 2019 Share #2 Posted April 15, 2019 The post with the nude women has been hidden as it's not something we permit to be posted on the forum for a variety of reasons. Thanks for your understanding.
Proud Kraut Posted April 15, 2019 Share #3 Posted April 15, 2019 "Cool" project, Manny. Can't wait to see more of the tank in progress.
manayunkman Posted April 17, 2019 Share #4 Posted April 17, 2019 Somehow when the original post was done there was an ad for Archer transfers but instead of insignia the pictures were from a 1960s Playboy. Rather graphic
Proud Kraut Posted April 17, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 17, 2019 Okay guys, a decision regarding the decals/pictures was made. Let's focus on the Tank, the figures and the dio. I would like to suggest the following procedure: Manny, please post the progress of your work. We all are looking forward to see your dio completed. Maybe it's possible to "cover" theses parts of the pictures that could be misinterpreted. Thanks very much Lars

ArtyScout Posted April 18, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted April 18, 2019 Hey guys, I apologize if I offended anyone with the pin-up/magazine pics. It was not my intention. I do intend to still use them in my diorama but I will take the finished photos for the forum prior to using them. So no one will see anything that is against forum rules and protocol. Again I'm sorry I started such a ruckus. Here are some follow-up pics as I scratch built the rear gear bustle. I tried the best I could and I like the way it came out. Now I can concentrate on putting the tank together. The decals are from Star Decals and I haven't decided which unit I'll be using and I'm still waiting on the figures from Bravo6. Enjoy. Semper Fi. ArtyScout Posted April 19, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted April 19, 2019 Well I primed the gear basket/bustle and I found out I didn't have the L antennae on the turret either so I had to scratchbuild that one too. As best as I could. I'm still waiting on my Bravo6 figures, but here are a few more pics. Semper Fi. Manny
The Meatcan Posted April 20, 2019 Share #12 Posted April 20, 2019 Manny, nice progress. Your work on the turret bustle came out great. Love the M48 so I'll be following along. Terry
ArtyScout Posted April 27, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted April 27, 2019 A couple of pics of the WIP with this model. The road wheels, idlers, sprockets and return rollers are on, the base coat is on and now its on to painting the tracks (I'm using the kits vinyl tracks) put them on the tank. Enjoy the pics. ArtyScout Posted May 2, 2019 Author Share #15 Posted May 2, 2019 Well I'm going to take a little timeout from my M48 as I relearned why I don't like using vinyl tracks anymore. I tried putting the vinyl tracks that came with the kit and they bent my idler wheel and two return rollers were also knocked off. This is something that has never happened to me before. I don't know if its the age of the kit or my rustiness with vinyl tracks. Anyway I ordered some AFV Club individual track links. I guess I can get started on the tank crew, while I wait for my tracks to arrive. Semper Fi. Manny
ArtyScout Posted May 4, 2019 Author Share #16 Posted May 4, 2019 Well I'm extremely upset. I ordered the Bravo6 figures thru ebay and they turned out to be fake knock-offs. So now I have to wait until I reorder the genuine stuff. I can't stand working with "garbage" and that's these figures are. Check them out, you can tell the difference between the real figures and the crap. Semper Fi. Manny
ArtyScout Posted May 4, 2019 Author Share #17 Posted May 4, 2019 Well at least I got some things painted. I did the .50cal MG and 3 WP bags. Semper Fi Manny
Proud Kraut Posted May 5, 2019 Share #18 Posted May 5, 2019 What a bummer with the tracks and the figures. They are looking horrible indeed. I hope you'll get replacement very soon. The machin gun and the bags are looking fine!
gwb123 Posted May 5, 2019 Share #19 Posted May 5, 2019 Fake plastic model figures? That is new. Who would think that the world of modeling was that extensive that it would be worth the time and set up to duplicate niche figures like these? I've seen shoddy restrikes from old molds before, but nothing like this. Thanks for the heads up and warning.
Proud Kraut Posted May 5, 2019 Share #20 Posted May 5, 2019 Fake plastic model figures? That is new. Who would think that the world of modeling was that extensive that it would be worth the time and set up to duplicate niche figures like these? I've seen shoddy restrikes from old molds before, but nothing like this. Thanks for the heads up and warning. I was fooled by a (asian) figure seller once as well. Resin figures are high priced, especially if these figure are sets not longer available. Seems that in Manny's case they even used an original box? manayunkman Posted May 5, 2019 Share #21 Posted May 5, 2019 Those figures are awful. Did you report the seller? Ebay should protect you. Other than that I've enjoyed the progress.
Blacksmith Posted May 5, 2019 Share #22 Posted May 5, 2019 Not surprising at all, sadly, on the figures. Very easy to make a silicone negative mold using the originals, and just duplicate resin castings. Most importantly, your model work is top notch Manny. mikie Posted May 9, 2019 Share #25 Posted May 9, 2019 Well at least I got some things painted. I did the .50cal MG and 3 WP bags. Semper Fi Manny Now that is just stunning. The paint on each bullet, link and case is incredible. Don't tell me you do each one by hand. Mikie
