kaszanka Posted April 9, 2019 #1 Posted April 9, 2019 Today I was scanning group of interesting photos from my Friends collection and came across this - an early "chaffee" helmet, but the most interesting thing came later - all the time I was focusing on the helmet and missed the painting on the FT17 turret.. take a closer look is that a 45th Infantry Division swastika patch painted ?

mikie Posted April 9, 2019 #3 Posted April 9, 2019 It is sad that a symbol that meant good things in many cultures for thousands of years, in 12 years could become a symbol of evil in hate for all time. Mikie
P-59A Posted April 9, 2019 #4 Posted April 9, 2019 Are those holes drilled into the top of the barrel?
kaszanka Posted April 9, 2019 Author #5 Posted April 9, 2019 Are those holes drilled into the top of the barrel? it does look like it, armament looks to be fake
LarryM3 Posted May 16, 2019 #6 Posted May 16, 2019 There is no gun present on this M1917 Light Tank. What you see is the armored cover to protect the barrel of the MG. The holes in the top are to let heat escape from the barrel when firing. The helmets are not 'Chaffee" helmets, that is an incorrect appellation attached by collectors in the 1950's - 1960's who did not know what to call the helmet. The correct name is ' 1919 Pattern, Helmet, Tank'. Larry
