Salvage Sailor Posted April 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 7, 2019 Aloha Everyone, Does anyone have any solid references or documentation on "VFT" Squadron patches? Other than a topic on our forum here and some images on bluejacket.com, I've only found current sales websites for reproduction/collector VFT patches. I've also found an NHHC Insignia Collection inventory list from 2003 that lists VFT-1 through VFT-6 as being in this collection in Box 83 (NHHC - Naval History and Heritage Command) but there are no photos. I've been looking for several years after I acquired a Green Aces VFT-24 patch which came from a veteran's scrapbook and now I've picked up a new one (VFT-21) that is not described anywhere on the web. Are VFT squadrons Fighter Training squadrons? If so, does anyone have a USN document which notes or lists them and their lineage? What era are they - 1950's? (40's? 60's?) Are there any originals in your collections for us to discuss and compare? Posted below is what I believe is an original VFT-24 that I've had for about 10 years or more. Salvage Sailor Posted September 4, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted September 4, 2023 It would be nice to pin this one down (and the other VFT squadrons). The BTG's were redesignated as VT's in May 1960 and they were VFT's before they were BTG's so I'd say it's the 1956 to 1959 time frame or a little earlier.
