Greek Return M1 Bayonets

So what is this black paint looking finish on the Greek bayonets? I was just about to acetone one to see what the surface was like underneath it, then I stopped myself to inquire of more knowledgeable folk.

On the M1 I have in hand, it appears to be blackened on the blade and cross-guard only with the pommel and handle being old parkerizing.

Best Regards,

Steve

I think it depends on how you look at it. You have a Greek return bayonet. The finish you see is exactly what it is supposed to look like. You have a US M1 bayonet that was lent to the Greek government for their use. The finish you see confirms that history. I wouldn't change it at all. Your next M1 bayonet can be a US only issued bayonet. Then you can show others the comparison and at the same time, history is remembered and preserved.

Off the top of my head. The only bayonets I have see w/ the blue/black Greek refinish are the US made ones we lent them. So far all the EN-S, I have, or have seen do not have the blue-black finish. Assume they did refinish theirs, but have yet to see any. Just my observations. SKIp

Same here.

It would seem that EN-S marked M1 bayonets were indeed refinished in the Greek black finish. Currently on Ebay there are several for sale exhibiting this finish. Not sure how to link to them, but one is listed as 123728528950.

These are Us made and loaned to Greece?

These are marked ENS but also marked

E_ US.

I picked these 2 up this week. They were covered in cosmoline. They look Blue Black to the eye.

Maybe not??? Maybe dark grey… Cant tell really.

But the flash lit them up making them appear Gray in the pics.

Solid pieces. Heavy.

30 bucks a piece.

They are not sharpened in the least bit. But they have heft to them.

Its a big chunk of steel.

Ive never held one in my hands before.

It makes the bayonet for the M-16 seem Dainty.

Can anyone clue me in on the markings? Please?

Thank you.

Dupage Trading is selling these right now at 3 bayonets for $60. I have bought at least 4 from Dupage, the first for $25, then 3 at $50. Since then they have gone up a little, but still a good deal. Mine were gray parkerized, not the Greek blue/black finish. SKIP
