Battle honors Darien ,Olustee,James Island and Wagner. This is the first Black Unit enguaged in major combat .Their story is told in the movie Glory . Growing up in the Boston area many years ago, I remember seeing the 54th Massachusetts memorial and Colonel Robert Gould Shaw's home location...
