carbinephalen Posted March 31, 2019 #1 Posted March 31, 2019 Capt Jesse L. W-H-E-E-L-E-R was born in Virginia in July of 1922. He was commissioned in July of 1943. He served in the 39th Infantry Regiment in the 9th Infantry Division. He rose to the rank of Colonel having served in the Vietnam war as well as an advisor. During WWII he was awarded the Silver Star Medal (H.Q 9th Infantry Division G.O. No. 7, 1945) and 2x Purple Heart Medals. He passed away in 2018 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. If anybody has any additional information about this veteran I would love to hear it! Thanks!
ww2guymandude Posted March 31, 2019 #2 Posted March 31, 2019 Very nice uniform, those WB ribbons are the cherry on top!
Cpl. Punishment Posted March 31, 2019 #3 Posted March 31, 2019 I have an original 39th infantry regiment unit history and will see if I can find any info on him
carbinephalen Posted April 1, 2019 Author #6 Posted April 1, 2019 I would assume so. Not sure about his service there.
patches Posted April 1, 2019 #7 Posted April 1, 2019 I would assume so. Not sure about his service there. If in Korea, and he was then a MACV Advisor, then he's a potential Three Award CIB winner.
carbinephalen Posted April 1, 2019 Author #8 Posted April 1, 2019 I think he got a PH in Vietnam or Korea
