cmt04444 Posted March 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 30, 2019 These are listed as pre WWII, were these outdated by the war and reduced to just the tank?
Steve B. Posted March 30, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 30, 2019 These were a pre-war insignia only and were not used during WWII. The armor branch insignia was just the tank. The infantry branch insignia was, and remains to this day, the crossed rifles.
GIl Sanow Posted March 30, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 30, 2019 To really understand this insignia, one must understand the tanks in the 1920's-'30's were considered to be for infantry support. This insignia shows this role. It was not until later that Armor became a separate branch. Armored Infantry units later wore Infantry insignia.
