Dirk Posted March 23, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 23, 2019 Picked up a 1901 dated Neptunus Rex Cert to a Boxer Marine along with his diary and discharge papers. Diary covers only a few weeks in China and then details his trip home via the Indian Ocean, Suez Canal, the Med, and the North and Baltics seas before turning for home via the USS Albany. An interesting diary entry has him at the Russian Naval Base of Kronstadt when the Tsar and his wife came aboard with the King of Greece. He noted the Tsar looked like a cousin of his but with a beard, while the Tsariana looked rather sickly. He further noted the Tsar and his wife were surrounded by rather brutish looking aides. 16 years later the Russian Empire would be swept away by the Revolution. bobgee Posted March 23, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 23, 2019 Very nice vintage document, Dirk. AND with a rare diary! Great early USMC stuff --as usual! Bob
Dirk Posted March 23, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted March 23, 2019 Thanks Bob! Had not seen one that old before, a part from the 1895 one Brig posted several years ago.
