Travd3 Posted March 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2019 Started researching this badge that I picked up years ago and misplaced during a move. Need opinions as to this badge and if anyone has seen a photo of the badge on a uniform. I can only find a few examples and none are actually being worn. The prop/wing is marked sterling, both the prop/wing and wreath have been tested and both come out sterling.

Nack Posted March 21, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 21, 2019 Is it cap-badge size, or smaller?
Wake1941 Posted March 21, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 21, 2019 Maybe for Air Corp band ? Definitely an odd one, the small center piece looks like the collar insignia to me
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted March 22, 2019 It’s fairl large, I am not at home so can’t measure. I can’t believe I didn’t put the measurements down. Will get back with them shortly.
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted March 22, 2019 It is cap badge size.
Wake1941 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 22, 2019 Im thinking this is a fantasy piece, the center is sterling marked but the wreath itself is fairly sloppily attached. I highly doubt it is sterling either
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted March 22, 2019 It measures approx. 2-3/4 wide x 2" tall
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted March 22, 2019 Both pieces were tested twice and both came up sterling both times
Wake1941 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #10 Posted March 22, 2019 The wreath came back as sterling ? Hmm thats odd
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted March 22, 2019 Why odd?
Wake1941 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #12 Posted March 22, 2019 The outside wreath looks like your genetic mass produced wreath. The prongs are cheaper made, and its hollow back while the center is filled.
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #13 Posted March 22, 2019 No offense, but I think you’re way off on this. There is nothing cheap or mass produced in my opinion. Maybe the pics don’t convey this to you, but not to me.
Wake1941 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #14 Posted March 22, 2019 Just my opinion but the way the pins are soldered on seems cheap to me. Look at other ones from the 40s/50s they are the exact same
Wake1941 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #15 Posted March 22, 2019 Center piece also looks exactly like WW2 CAP collar insignia, you can also see where it looks like there was 2 post prior to being added to the wreath
Travd3 Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #16 Posted March 22, 2019 Any examples proving or disproving the authenticity of the badge or some solid basic information would go a long way in helping me figure this out. Anyone else?
Flashlarue Posted March 22, 2019 Share #17 Posted March 22, 2019 It looks like a Bannerman's put together.
Wake1941 Posted March 22, 2019 Share #18 Posted March 22, 2019 My thoughts exactly bannermans Made tons of stuff like this in the 40s/50s that has true age but no solid ground
pfrost Posted March 22, 2019 Share #19 Posted March 22, 2019 I suspect it is either something made by Bannerman or a bit of sweetheart/patriotic jewelry. These type of things were very popular during/after the war. Plus, a lot of companies had extra "stuff" laying around collecting dust, so why not try to repurpose something to sell? It is very neat, thanks for sharing.
