This came home with a member of the 148th infantry. It has nice detail and must have been affordable by few Japanese soldiers.

 

The inside has an interesting silvery finish over the brass.

A map of China....I wonder if the case might have been made there in occupied territory...I see they ran the Great Wall at the top of the case and in the map as well.

To get me oriented: the area I circled in red, is that Taiwan?

The detail is excellent: you can even see the star on the helmet on the map side (and the Great Wall is next to the helmet).

Wow, the wear marks are quite pronounced! The location names are pretty worn on the map side. Must have been used heavily, great piece!
