greasemonkey247 Posted March 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2019 Hi there! Looking to get some more info on this scabbard i picked up today in the antique store. I figured it was WWII since it didn't have a pistol belt hangar so i picked it up. I paint stripped 2 layers of OD paint that was on the metal throat. It took 30mins using stripper and a brush which revealed a rather nice original Park finish underneath the paint! My question is, Is it normal for early wwii m8 scabbards to be lacking any engravings /maker marks on the metal throat ? My buddy I sent photos to said it's a early 1943 M8 scabbard that's scarcely found since it has the OD3 webbing. Any help is appreciated

thorin6 Posted March 17, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 17, 2019 Does it have the VP mark on the back of the body? How about the heat lot numbers (B-N) under the guard?
Misfit 45 Posted March 17, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 17, 2019 Pretty sure. It's Italian. Marv
sactroop Posted March 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2019 The metal throat doesn't look like a typical B.M.Co. M8.
SKIPH Posted March 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2019 I agree with Marv. It's an Italian scabbard for the Italian M4 bayonet. They're good scabbards, very similar to US M8s, but lack the markings. SKIP
