I have a discharge certificate for a PFC that served in the 87th ID Hq Bn in WW2, In the qualification box for Marksmanship medals, the CIB, Rifle MKM badge are noted among others, including the words "2nd Class Gunner", I've never seen that before, could it be for field artillery?

I believe this means he was a "sharpshooter" on the Machine Gun. I've seen something like this when looking at NY Guard WWII qualifications.

My father was in the Coastal Artillery Corp. His discharge shows he was a 1st Class Gunner. Not sure if MG or arti. Pre ww2 they had a patch to show this qualification,IIRC.
