2019 SOS finds

Having only recently moved from M-1 collecting to aviation helmets and primarily AAF helmets, I was on the hunt at the SOS, and found that although theres plenty of AAF and WWII aviation stuff there, its harder to find when youre used to spotting the distinctive shape of steel helmets. Flight helmets are usually lying flat on a table....however, I shifted my observation skills to sniff out some cool AAF stuff and these are two of my best finds.

A rare (from what my research tells me) H-28-CL experimental leather covered flak helmet in really nice shape. I still havent figured out, and it seems no one has, the significance of the yellow star on the top.

The second cool find was this A-11 with an A-2 jacket name plate sewn to the front. Ive only seen this a few times so I was glad to find this one.

Any info or comments on either of these is appreciated!

Rick

I saw the flak helmet there and it looked really nice. Yours is in a lot better shape than mine. It would be nice to solve the mystery of the yellow stars on these helmets.

I made an offer on that star helmet the 1st day of the show and the owner passed, by the 3rd day it appears his interest in selling increased, It’s great to see it landed in the hands of a gentleman. Congrats!
