mikie Posted February 25, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2019 I had just happened to be in Los Angeles this weekend and perusing area history, I read about the Great Los Angeles air raid. It also just happens that today is the anniversary of the "battle". Long story short, the LA area anti aircraft defenses were convinced a Japanese air raid was in progress and blasted away for about 3 hours. But no Japanese planes were in the air. The shooting has since been attributed to everything from weather balloons to flying saucers. Here is some light reading on the subject... https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/7_things_you_didnt_know_a https://www.history.com/news/world-war-iis-bizarre-battle-of-los-angeles https://rense.com/general67/batofla.htm Enjoy! pmanton Posted March 20, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 20, 2019 My father was an air raid warden. I have some vague memories of this. I was 4 years old at the time. Paul Salome, AZ
mikie Posted March 20, 2019 Author Share #9 Posted March 20, 2019 My Grandad Frank was an Air Raid Warden too during the war, but that was well before my time. My Grandma said she had his equipment packed away someplace and that I could have it if she ever found it. She passed away after I moved across the country and never learned what happened to it. vintageproductions Posted December 21, 2020 Share #12 Posted December 21, 2020 Fort MacArthur has a yearly event where they have a large dance and recreated the air raid. The curator also has a book near completion on the original event.
