Doodlebewi Posted February 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 24, 2019 I recently picked this up in a junk bin. I can seem to find anything on it has a large swas on it I'm assuming it has something to do with native American due to the Rio grande reference. Der Finn Posted February 28, 2019 Share #5 Posted February 28, 2019 Please explain, matmil. Haven't heard that term used for a swastika. Thanks!
firefighter Posted March 1, 2019 Share #6 Posted March 1, 2019 You are probably right. The Swastika was a Native American good luck symbol before the Nazi's ruined it.
Albert Posted April 16, 2021 Share #7 Posted April 16, 2021 A friend of mine just got one of those too. Is it correct to state that this design was never authorized and the crest is a collector copy. It is an interesting crest though as it combines a native American element, which also happens to be a nazi symbol among other things, and the red and white (actually silver) design which represents the Franconian Rake. Was the unit stationed in the greater Nuremberg area post WWII (incl. Wuerzburg, Bamberg as some of the US garrison cities)?
tredhed2 Posted April 17, 2021 Share #8 Posted April 17, 2021 The design may have been authorized but it is a fantasy piece, made only for collectors. Sometimes they were made from official drawings. In this case, it was made years, perhaps decades after the unit existed. There are many unauthorized pieces made, usually during post-war occupation duty.
