tarheel1 Posted February 22, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 22, 2019 I have had this grenade for a number of years and beleive that it is a Model V40 I think (from what I can find on the internet). It is small in size. It came from a neighbor who was in Viet Nam and called it something like a "bamboo buster". It isn't in my collecting field (I collect WWI Navy Hat tallies). Any help ID'ing it would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance! TH1

tarheel1 Posted February 23, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted February 23, 2019 USARV72, Thank you for taking the time to respond & thank you for your service. I wasn't aware that they were reproducing them in the mid-80's when I obtained it from the SF Veteran who gave it to me. It does not appear to be cast and from what I can tell everything seems to function on it. As for the size of the pin on the grenade, it is actually quite...large almost bigger than the grenade. I have attached a comparison photo of a pull ring on a standard grenade fuse. This one in question is considerably larger. Apparently they are rare or uncommon as you mentioned. There doesn't seem to be much information about them on the internet. I could not find an original listed or previously sold in searching so I don't know about the expensive part as you mention. Again, I thank you for your time & service. TH1
doyler Posted March 9, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2019 Appears to be a V40. If its repro I would assume it would be resin versus metal?? Some of the V40s I have seen appear to have lines in the body from the manufactirung orocess or to aid in fragmation?

tarheel1 Posted March 10, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted March 10, 2019 Doyler & USARV72, Thank you both for taking the time to respond and for your help. It is metal and a decent amount of weight to it. This feels like it is made of steel and not aluminum. I have not tried to unscrew the fuse. PM on the way. Thanks again!
