Laverne77 Posted February 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 18, 2019 Hello everyone, I'm new here, and I am not a collector, and I have what is probably going to amount to a silly question. I recently acquired an old Air Force overcoat. The tag inside the inner pocket says "Dated December 15th, 1950". Does that date indicate when the coat was manufactured, or does it reference something else like a contract date, etc?
AustinO Posted February 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 18, 2019 The date denotes when the contract was awarded, the coat was probably produced at some point in the year after that date.
MattS Posted February 18, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 18, 2019 Usually coats were made pretty quickly after the contract was approved, depending on the contract it could specify the coats had to be delivered within 6 months or something like that. V42 Posted March 5, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 5, 2019 Just a way to really date the jacket as to the year it was made.
