Bill Scott Posted February 15, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2019 I agree with Bob it looks like a copy. The back has that synthetic thread look to it.Here is a real one out of a WW2 album.Scotty
cmt04444 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted February 15, 2019 I was afraid of that when it arrived in person. Thanks.
cmt04444 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted February 15, 2019 Is this 18th Defense Batallion a Copy as well? The back seems strange to me.
ocsfollowme Posted February 15, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 15, 2019 The 18th is a 1940s period patch. Blue base material. Appears to have glue on the reverse.
Siamundo Posted February 16, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 16, 2019 I agree with vintageproductions and Bill Scott that this is a copy. One thing I have noticed on every original I have seen is at the top of the 4 where the diagonal line meets the vertical line, there is very little open space between the two pieces where the red shows through. Usually there are also several single strands on black thread connecting the two pieces. You can see this on the patch Mr Scott posted and two originals I have posted below. On the patch in the original post, there seems to be a clear separation between the two pieces and the red threads between are clearly visible. Hope this helps in your future hunting. Bearmon Posted February 17, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 17, 2019 I always look for the rounded bomb head and the fact the bomb extends to almost the bottom of the patch.
Siamundo Posted February 26, 2019 Share #9 Posted February 26, 2019 That's another great tip Bearmon!
mortaydc60 Posted March 3, 2019 Share #10 Posted March 3, 2019 All of the above is helpful but looks like this one maybe an exception that I found on ebay. The back looks good and the bomb head is rounded but there is a very clear red space at the top.
