Brian Keith Posted February 8, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 8, 2019 I got a couple of photo albums a few years ago; it appears the soldier was in the CCC then in the Army in WW II. Most of the photos are poor snapshots that make you wish they had a better camera and processor. Anyway, these two shots were in the album. If youre interested in the US military in WW II and you dont know who Ernie Pyle was, then I say; you have some reading you should do. Ernie Pyle B. Dana, IN Aug. 3, 1900 D. Ie Shima, Japan April 18, 1945 Felled by Japanese machine gun fire. RIP Ernie, you earned your rest. BKW Note the M-1 Helmet on the sign.
Brian Keith Posted February 8, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted February 8, 2019 This cemetery photo was in the same album, but it doesnt look to be Pyles grave, but he may have been buried in this one initially. BKW
Garandomatic Posted February 8, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 8, 2019 I have an almost identical photo taken at the obelisk monument of a 5th Air Force guy and his seabee brother. That picture of yours made me do a double take.

Brian Keith Posted February 8, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted February 8, 2019 Thanks for the responses, the wooden sign apparently is how the spot was first marked. I don't know how long it was before the concrete memorial was made. BKW

mikie Posted February 8, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 8, 2019 I've read all his books at one time or another. That old saying about making them laugh, making them cry describes his writing. Owen, where did you see his raincoat? Is it on display somewhere? Mikie

USARV72 Posted February 8, 2019 Share #9 Posted February 8, 2019 Ernie’s books should required reading, unless one has read a few you are missing much regarding what GI’s experienced in WWII .
