Personally I have not come across any M-43 jackets with a modified fur collar. I usually see M-41 jackets with leather collars and leather trim around the pockets and sleeves. These usually come from Army Air Force or Navy vets, i suppose they had more time to customize their field jackets than Infantrymen. I guess the leather around the pockets and sleeves would help against fraying damage. Is there a date on the back of the photo? I know the 94th ID was involved in the Ardennes-Alsace campaign so I wonder if this was done before or after the Battle of the Bulge.
