Help in id' ing patch in ww1 picture

I have conflicting theories of what this patch might signify. I did see on griffinmilitaria that there was a patch like this that was labeled as a variant for the 39th division. However, I have seen other period photos of this patch and all of the soldiers that were photographed wearing it had quartermaster collar insignia and were part of the Services of Supply. It might be the patch for a supply unit. I'm not really sure on either theory, so I look forward to seeing other opinions.
