Doodlebewi Posted February 4, 2019 #1 Posted February 4, 2019 Okay, so I bought these recently they all came out of the same case display. It came out of a estate which was all over the place in terms of quality of items ect. I could tell the LOMs were okay so I bought it. I would like a second opinion as I've never really handled a presidential of Medal of freedom before. Also an opinion as a whole of the group. I'm not really a medal guys just wanted to make sure these are okay before I do anything with them. As a side note there were a few other random medals in the case which I felt didnt fit this group. Example Panama canal service medal, Thypus medal and conquest of yellow fever medals.
McDermut99 Posted February 4, 2019 #5 Posted February 4, 2019 The medal on the bottom row far left (as well at left in post #3) is the Presidential Medal for Merit, a relatively uncommon civilian awarded medal. Yours looks to be a very nice example. Is it crimp or slot brooch?
Doodlebewi Posted February 4, 2019 Author #6 Posted February 4, 2019 Thanks. Heres the back for reference
LuftStalg1 Posted February 5, 2019 #7 Posted February 5, 2019 On the bottom row next to the Medal For Merit is the Presidential Citizens medal, National Intelligence Achievement medal, National Security Medal, and National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal type 1. All are somewhat uncommon and some of my favorites. The Presidential Medal of Merit medals are all being copied in Germany and all over ebay but I could not tell you how to determine which are good and which are bad. Still a couple of grand retail there, IMO.
jmpmstr Posted February 9 #8 Posted February 9 The Presidential Medal of Freedom in various grades are copies IMO. But not handling them I’d have to qualify my opinion. The appearance is flat on the enamel and the badges are much too shiny with the same anodized look when our service medals are treated. The enamel should be deep in color with a slight vaulting to it and exceedingly detailed in application. The Medal for Merit is a nice 80s or 90s made piece, IMO. The connecting bale between the badge and suspension is narrow, a mark of the recent manufacture. I can’t speak for the Citizens Medal as I’ve not handled an authentic piece . All nice pieces and great representation of our military and in particular civilian agency honors, there is a lot of value there nonetheless.
