Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted February 2, 2019 #1 Posted February 2, 2019 nearly every soldier has burlap scrim on their helmet cover. I do not know what unit they are. Soldier in the back has a circle with a line in it, right side of helmet circle with a line in it, right side of helmet soldier closest has a circle with some mark in it, left side of helmet
Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted February 2, 2019 Author #2 Posted February 2, 2019 circle? with mark in it, right side of helmet same soldier turns his head revealing shape with a corner on left side of helmet. My guess is a square, but maybe something like the 1st ID SSI.

AnDuc49 Posted February 3, 2019 #10 Posted February 3, 2019 Pretty sure these are all First Cav troopers. They used them extensively in Jan - March 1966 during Operation Masher/White Wing
Nightraider Posted February 3, 2019 #11 Posted February 3, 2019 would this patch help determine the unit? i was thinking this might possibly be a Vietnamese soldier though due to the Carbine and M45 pack but i'm not sure.
Justin Posted February 3, 2019 #12 Posted February 3, 2019 I wish I knew what the patch was, but I do not. That is definitely a South Vietnamese soldier
pump 150 Posted February 3, 2019 #13 Posted February 3, 2019 This was a unit tac marking used by the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry during what has been said Operation Masher/White Wing period of 1966. The shapes are based off the same used by all aviation units within the 1st Cav... Triangle = A Co., Square = B Co., Circle = C Co., Diamond = D Co. The interior numbers are squad/platoon numbers within each and the "M" standing for Medic.
Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted February 3, 2019 Author #14 Posted February 3, 2019 Thanks for the info pump 150. I had a feeling it has something to do with the helicopter markings. Could an admin please change the name to Vietnam War 2nd Bn 7th Cav tac marks.
