phil31 Posted January 30, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 30, 2019 I'm trying to identify the provenance of this SPH-4 helmet with a horse head on the visor cover. My best guess is that it comes from an USMC squadron. Can someone identify it ? It has a clear visor. Is it the right configuration when using NVG googles ? Thanks, Phi
MattS Posted January 30, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 30, 2019 Can't comment on the horse, but it looks like a SPH-4A (webbed interior) with a ANVIS-6 mount. My army issued SPH-4A: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/303867-my-army-aviation-sph-4a-as-worn-circa-1994/
mwesson030 Posted January 30, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 30, 2019 Maybe HSL-46? There are quite a few USMC/USN squadrons that use a horse for their insignia so this might me a tricky one to track down.
mohawkALSE Posted January 31, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2019 Id say def USMC that it looks to have the velcro strips on it for a camo helmet cover, maybe from a HMM or HMH squadron. It should be a SPH-3C helmet and has the ANVIS visor housing. Any pics of the back showing the ICS cord setup?
phil31 Posted January 31, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted January 31, 2019 You are right: it seems to be a SPH-3C modified with a single visor. I found holes in the shell wcovered with reflective tape and they match with the double visor et up.

MattS Posted January 31, 2019 Share #7 Posted January 31, 2019 Ah, it just has the SPH-4 visor with the NVG mount.
