I did not think I would ever see this maneuver in a E-2 Hawkeye. This video is from VAW-123 in 1970 onboard the USS Saratoga CV-60.

 

Pilot was the CO of VAW-123. CDR. Charles Berthe Jr.

Umm.... and the purpose of that would be? Perhaps he was retiring that day.

 

Yeah I can't think of a reason a E-2 needs to do a roll like that.

 

When the Skipper's chain of command saw that roll, he was probably retired on the spot!! LOL

 

I also read the current NATOPS manual limits the angle of bank to 70 degrees these days.

Kinda cool to watch that...ever see the 707 doing a roll?...while we think of it as dangerous...the engineers say there is no inherent change in wing loading when properly rolling an aircraft...something like 1G...
