aznation Posted January 20, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 20, 2019 I'll take a stab at it. It's a U.S. Army Model 1881 Infantry Helmet. Unit is probably California 2nd Infantry Regiment.
45govt Posted January 20, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 20, 2019 Hello Easterneagle That is refereed to as the 1881 "summer helmet" I have seen photos of them with and without spikes and with and without plumes They were normally issued in the hotter climates The plate on that one has the crossed canons indicating Artillery. Here are some photos of them being worn
VolunteerArmoury Posted January 20, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 20, 2019 Ive not read a ton from this yet but I just came across this information that may his unit. Its History of the Battery C (San Francisco Fusileers), 2ndArtillery Regiment, National Guard of California 1881-1895. I also caught a glimpse that they were formerly the San Francisco Fusileers. Thats all I came up with so far. If its ok to post a screenshot of the information in case the link doesnt work someday I could post that but seems I remember there were some rules regarding that. Ill see if I can find those rules & if allowed Ill post them. http://www.militarymuseum.org/2nd%20Arty%20Regt%2C%20Btry%20C%20(San%20Francisco%20Fusileers)%2C%201881-1895.pdf http://www.militarymuseum.org/HistoryCalNG2.html
