LtDan Posted January 14, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 14, 2019 Hello, I'm looking at this aviation collar insignia. It is listed as an original WW1 aviation collar insignia. I understand this insignia was never actually authorized and few were worn. There seem to be so many reproductions on the market,.......I would appreciate any opinions/comments regarding this insignia. Thanks.
Major Z Posted January 14, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 14, 2019 Looks like the signal insignia was once clutch back (the little circles on the back look like clutch posts) before the catch mechanism was attached. If that's the case, that insignia isn't WWI. Are they casting marks perhaps? I'm no expert by any means, that's just what it looks like to me. I'd love to read other opinions on the matter. atb Posted January 14, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2019 Those appear to be where the small wings are riveted on to the Signal Corps insignia.
