Early VPI on Eagle Hat Badge. Help Date Please.

Recommended Posts

I found this hat badge with matching VPI screw back collar devices. I have not been able to determine the age of this badge. I could not find any images of this device being worn. It looks nothing like the VPI shield hat badge. Any ideas? Student worn? Teacher worn? Any ideas on this Virginia Polytechnic Institute device? If anybody is interested, I listed it on eBay. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the response but your answer does not go with my question. What period was this used???

Here are the collar devices. No makers marks on any pieces.

There is a similar VMI cap badge that was worn exclusively by first classmen (seniors) with a particular uniform. I forget what it was called but it may have been a "furlough uniform" or something similar. It was a white uniform with a white cap, different from the typical cadet gray cap,and as you noted it uses a different badge. I don't know the period of use but would estimate 1930s-1950s based on the design. VMI uniforms tend not to change often so sometimes it's hard to nail down use to a particular decade.

Looking for older Virginia Military Institute items: insignia, uniforms, cadet sabers, documents, and groupings belonging to VMI alumni.

Also interested in Virginia Reserve Militia (VRM) uniforms and insignia, or other items of general Virginia interest.
